Mactan-Cebu International
Airport reported recently an average of 192 daily aircraft
operations (landings and take-offs). About 63% of the
flight operations at Mactan-Cebu International Airport are commercial
carriers while the remaining 37% are military aircrafts
and general aviation operations.
Over the last fifteen (18) years, Mactan-Cebu
International Airport’s passenger traffic has grown at an annual average
of 19% for International while the domestic grew at an
annual average of 6%. Mactan-Cebu International Airport
is currently served by Sixteen (16) commercial airlines and two (2) cargo
carriers.
2009 has been a challenging year for the aircraft industry. Even though the global economic crisis has greatly affected the aviation industry, MCIAA was able to stay on track and achieved major breakthrough. The records of 2009 domestic aircraft movements showed a great increase of 37% compared to the previous year.
Mactan – Cebu International Airport Authority is very positive in its thrust towards becoming A Hub in the Asia Pacific even though international aircraft movements in 2009 showed a decrease of 8% compared to the previous year.
General Aviation can’t be taken for granted as it is important for wider transportation access in the country and in tourism activities. This year, a notable decrease of 9% in general aviation flights has been observed.
Mactan – Cebu International Airport continues to serve our Philippine AirForce and Military as their landing and take-off facility though military traffic decreased to 12% this year.
The volume of domestic passengers of MCIAA has always been increasing. The global financial crisis of 2009 did not affect much the flow of domestic passengers coming to and departing from Cebu. As expected, it increased to 28% compared to the previous year.
The year 2009 has been a rough year for international aviation industry. A decrease of 7% in international passengers has been observed.
A significant decrease in the volume of cargoes was observed in year 2008. And in year 2009, another decrease of 1% has been experienced for domestic and 16% for international.
Financial Performance
Mactan-Cebu International Airport Authority (MCIAA) is financially self-supporting. It operates on its own without equity infusion. It prides itself on operating financially as a successful business while serving the public interest. Its financial status shows capability of sustaining its operational/business requirements as its Net Income continue to increase in time.
